All Cameron High School varsity basketball teams from 1954 through 1971 were honored in a public ceremony at the Tennessee State Senate on June 2nd at 9am in the Tennessee State Capitol. State Senator Thelma Harper ('62) was the sponsor of this program which recognized the 55 year anniversary of Cameron High basketball and its many accomplishments. The Cameron basketball varsity program produced many excellent coaches over the years such as Ben Jobe, Eugene Speight, James Stevenson, Claxton Starnes, Eugene Stevenson and Ronald Lawson Sr. which culminated in two (2) back-to-back State Championships in 1970 and 1971.

Though Cameron's brief stint as a high school was for only 16 years, "The Mighty Panthers" produced over 21 team championships  including several District, State, Regional, Sub-State, Invitational, Hall of Fame and March of Dimes titles. During the 1970 and 1971 seasons, the teams compiled a Nashville city record of 55 consecutive victories that still stand today and continues to reign as one of the longest winning streaks in Tennessee prep history. The teams successes throughout the varsity years emphasized the development of fundamentals, teamwork, self-discipline, high performance and academics. Some of the team notables include
Ken Riley, Sam McDonald, David Vaughn, Richard Burnett, Cecil Beaird, Ken Cooper, Geary Jackman, Ronald Myles, Adolphe Jones, George House, Michael Edmondson, Harold Corlew and Freddie Lewis.
